Mission and Vision
Vision Statement
Educate a child and change a life!
Mission Statement
To provide quality education to under privileged children of low income group providing equal opportunities irrespective of caste, creed or gender.
Our Beginning
In 2004 like-minded individuals took the initiative to establish a free English medium school for children of low-income groups residing in and around the greater Defence Housing Authority area, Karachi. Such identified pockets of low-income residents did not otherwise have access to reasonably priced, and subsidized, quality education.
As a result of these efforts DSRA-Trust was registered as a non-profitable charitable trust on April 21st 2004 under The Trust Act 1882. Donations were sought from friends and family and from the general membership of the Defence Society Residents Association.
Adequate premises for the holding of classes were identified in Phase 1, DHA, in close proximity to adjoining localities such as Mehmoodabad, Chanesar Goth, and the area around Kala Pul and Main Korangi Road. Easy accessibility to the school (generally not more than 15~20-minute walk) was a primary location criterion. This location became the first project of the DSRA-Trust.
Expansion
Encouraged by the success of the first project and based on repeated requests received from communities in other areas in the vicinity of DHA, Karachi, the DSRA-Trust took the initiative to establish a similar English Medium School Campus in Junejo Town, adjacent to the Shaheed-e-Millat Expressway and in close proximity to the IQRA University Campus.
In 2013~2014 a piece of land measuring 1057 sq. yds. was identified and purchased. The location could ideally cater to students in Junejo Town, Manzoor Colony, Akhtar Colony and Kashmir Colony and was an approximate 15-minute drive from the Defence Campus.
The plot already had an old structure and with some renovation it was immediately brought into use to launch primary-level classes. Subsequently a purpose-built three-story building was constructed and brought into use in early 2018. The new campus has been designed with an assembly area, and adequate spaces for administrative offices, roomy and airy classrooms, computer and science labs and a library, and adequate washroom facilities. Provision remains to construct an additional two floors and another school building of similar dimensions thereby doubling the student capacity of this campus.
Our Curriculum
The school curriculum followed by the DSRA-Trust has two aspects. The academic curriculum, which follows the English medium instruction, is designed by the DSRA-Trust's Academic Team (comprising Trustees and Members of the Executive Committee) headed by trained and experienced teachers with a track record of imparting academic excellence.
The objective here is to build a strong base of academic excellence at the primary level and thereafter follow the curriculum laid down by the Sindh Text Book Board for preparing secondary level students for the Sindh Board Examinations.
Hidden Curriculum
In addition, there is a hidden curriculum which places emphasis on character building, discipline, good mannerisms and high moral values through daily interaction with the teachers. This agenda has been seen to have a positive impact on the student's life at home in interactions with the students' parents and siblings.
